Ventilation

Ventilation is the intentional movement of air from outside a building to the inside.

What's Ventilation

Ventilating is the process of “changing” or replacing air in any space to provide high indoor (i.e. to control temperature, replenish oxygen, or remove moisture, odours, smoke, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, and carbon dioxide). Ventilation is used to remove unpleasant smells and excessive moisture, introduce outside air, to keep interior building air circulating, and to prevent stagnation of the interior air.Ventilation includes both the exchange of air to the outside as well as circulation of air within the building. It is one of the most important factors for maintaining acceptable indoor air quality in buildings.

Methods for Ventilation

Methods for ventilating a building may be divided into mechanical/ forced and natural types.”Mechanical” or “forced” ventilation is used to control indoor air quality. Excess humidity, odors, and contaminants can often be controlled via dilution or replacement with outside air. However, in humid climates much energy is required to remove excess moisture from ventilation air.Kitchens and bathrooms typically have mechanical exhaust to control odors and sometimes humidity. Kitchens have additional problems to deal with such as smoke and grease (see kitchen ventilation). Factors in the design of such systems include the flow rate (which is a function of the fan speed and exhaust vent size) and noise level. If ducting for the fans traverse unheated space (e.g., an attic), the ducting should be insulated as well to prevent condensation on the ducting. Direct drive fans

The Different Types of Ventilation Fans

Ceiling Mounted Fans

These fans are mounted on the ceiling and are pushing the stale air from the house through the roof upwards. They usually make use of a hole in the attic so there is no need for any altering to the structure of the house for installation. These devices can be installed in any room that needs fresh air flow through it

Exterior Exhaust Fans

They work a bit differently from the previous fans by being installed on the outside of the home, which allows the fan to simply pull out the stale air, rather than push it out. If noise is a problem, installing an exterior fan will help as the most of the noise will stay outdoors.

Bathroom Fans

Bathroom ventilation fans are perfect to use after showers or hot baths when a lot of moisture accumulates on the mirror, walls or windows. These fans can be a bit smaller than the other types as they are needed in a smaller room.

Wall Mounted Fans

name implies, these fans are installed on the exterior wall of the home which enables stale air to leave the room directly through the fan. When installing the fan there is no need for any additional work on the house.

Kitchen Fans

These fans are usually installed in the kitchen over the kitchen stove inside the range hood. They help removing the bad odors from the kitchen during or after cooking and also reduce or eliminate the moisture levels in the kitchen.

Combo Fans With Lights

These are fans which also give the additional benefit of providing illumination in an area when the fan is working.
